Meet Andreea Deneș, the founder and cake maker behind Once Upon A Treat. From her independent cake shop in Coventry, she creates handmade cakes, desserts and sweet treats with a personal touch.
Andreea makes each order with care, using quality ingredients and taking the time to understand what every customer has in mind. Whether it is a birthday cake, a thoughtful gift or a treat shared over coffee, everything begins with her love of making people feel welcome.
How It All Started
Once Upon A Treat began during a difficult chapter in Andreea’s life. When her best friend returned to Romania, Andreea hoped to bring her back to England so they could open a cake shop together. Her friend knew how to bake and decorate cakes, while Andreea had no experience in the field at the time.
She started searching for a suitable shop, but several locations fell through. When she finally found the right place, delays with the paperwork meant they had to wait. During that time, her friend decided not to return to England.
It was another painful change, but Andreea has always believed that things happen for a reason. Instead of giving up on the idea, she found the courage to continue on her own.
She enrolled in her first beginner’s cake course and began learning a completely new craft. What started as a plan built around friendship gradually became part of her own healing.
With every cake she made, Andreea gained more confidence and discovered a passion she had not known was there.
That journey became Once Upon A Treat, a place shaped by resilience, kindness and the belief that even difficult beginnings can lead to something beautiful.

Professionally Trained in
Cake Making and Decorating
Andreea has continued to develop her skills through professional, practical training at Sweet Art School.
In September 2025, she completed the five-day Cake Baking and Decorating Training Course, a CPD-certified course covering essential baking and cake decorating skills. In February 2026, she returned to complete the Bento Cakes Masterclass, expanding her knowledge of small, personalised celebration cakes.
Her training, hands-on experience and attention to detail support her work as a professional cake maker in Coventry. She continues to learn, experiment and refine her techniques so that every cake looks beautiful and tastes just as good.

Today, Andreea creates handmade cakes for birthdays, weddings and many other special occasions. Customers can choose from bespoke celebration cakes, personalised designs and familiar homemade favourites, all made to order at Once Upon A Treat.
Her previous experience as a carer continues to shape the way she works. Care, patience and attention to individual needs matter to her, both when creating a cake and when welcoming someone into the shop. She takes the time to listen, discuss ideas and create something that feels personal to the person receiving it.
